As the host city, how is the intelligent manufacturing development level of Nanjing? Nanjing has put forward the mission including the construction of a famous intelligent manufacturing city in China, the approaches to realizing these goals in the next 5 years and the methods of exploring advanced experience internationally. An interview was conducted before the opening ceremony of the Summit.

¡°Taking advantages of the good foundation, conditions and advantages, Nanjing is competent in building a well-known intelligent manufacturing city in China.¡± Mr. Jianrong Shen, director of Nanjing Economic and Information Technology Commission said that Nanjing is not only a software city in China with a full range of software industry chain, but also a city possessed with a strong R & D capability, which in turn provides strong support for the software development in terms of intelligent manufacturing. On the other hand, Nanjing equipment industry enjoys a strong advantage and the same is true for ¡°hardware foundation". For example, the wind power equipment of NGC accounts for 20% of the world output. Other key enterprises such as Nanjing Estun Automation Company and Panda Electronics Group are pioneering the domestic robot industry. Other large traditional manufacturing enterprises such as Nanjing Iron and Steel Group Corporation is actively transforming and upgrading in the area of intelligent manufacturing which in turn will provide strong technical services and hardware support.
"More importantly, the task called ¡°the integration of information technology and industrialization¡± has been conducted very well in Nanjing. There are a number of enterprises with very high degree of automation. Nanjing is not only one of the eight national model cities in terms of ¡°integration of information technology and industrialization¡±, but also the only city which has passed state examination. The implementation degree of ¡°integration of information technology and industrialization¡± among enterprise above designated size has exceeded 90%. These enterprises have the basic conditions for the implementation of intelligent manufacturing,¡± said Mr. Jianrong Shen.
Data is a strong proof of "Nanjing advantages". Last year, the intelligent manufacturing equipment industry in Nanjing achieved the main business income of 69.5 billion RMB with an increase of 18.8%. It is expected that the total size of the industry will exceed 80 billion RMB in this year. At the same time, the main income of next generation of information network industry as well as Internet industry also achieved 100 billion RMB over the last year. In addition to networking industry which ranked the second place in Jiangsu province, cloud computing, big data industry, basic software and industrial software industry all ranked first in the province.
Demonstrating, leading and establishing a platform to promote high-end industries
In the meanwhile, with the rapid expansion of the scale, the chain of intelligent manufacturing industry in Nanjing has been further extended. For example, by successfully promoting the "Horizon Robot" and "Microsoft incubator in Nanjing" project, the industrial chain has been extended to the field of artificial intelligence. Military enterprises and other large and medium-sized enterprises such as Aerosun Corporation, Nanjing Iron and Steel Group Corporation, Nanjing Kangni Mechanical & Electrical Co.,Ltd have also set foot in the transition to intelligent equipment production area, involving numerical control, intelligent control systems, automated production lines, intelligent and specialized equipment.
The mission concerning the construction of a famous intelligent manufacturing city in China and the overall layout of the intelligent manufacturing industry chain should be on the top of agenda. Nanjing is leading by ways of demonstration, and is continuously accumulating experience so as to promote enterprises¡¯ participation in intelligent manufacturing, and at the same time to promote high-end industries in Nanjing. It is reported that since 2015, Nanjing has launched 20 intelligent demonstration plants projects. In particular, Nanjing New Power Electric Co., Ltd has a world-class intelligent equipment and production lines with leading manufacturing capacity and the advanced level of information technology in China. Nanjing Kangni Mechanical & Electrical Co.,Ltd is carrying out the construction of intelligent factory, which has become a demonstration involving intelligent manufacturing, lean production, digital quality control in rail transit department. Olokitchen is actively constructing China¡¯s first "uncrewed factory"by implementing customized production .
Platform construction is vital in Intelligent manufacturing industry chain. At present, Nanjing has set up a number of intelligent manufacturing innovation platform and technical support platform, such as the Sino-German Institute of Intelligent Manufacturing which is jointly established by Jiangbei District and the Fraunhofer IPK, so as to introduce the concept of German "industry 4.0" and current technology into China and serve for Nanjing intelligent manufacturing. Nanjing Intelligent Manufacturing Institute which is jointly founded by China Electronics and Nanjing city is based on the approaches to intelligent factory construction that is related to electronic information and on the intelligent manufacturing equipment. In addition, Nanjing is also taking the lead in setting up a domestic enterprise alliance with more than 40 enterprises.
Establishing a ¡°Made in China 2025¡± pilot demonstration city and Creating an Intelligent Manufacturing city
"Next, we will accelerate the transformation and upgrading of industries, and focus on building a ¡®Made in China 2025¡¯ pilot demonstration city in China in accordance with the objectives and requirements on ¡®a high level establishment and six significance¡¯ which are put forward by the 14th Party Congress in Nanjing. Relying on Jiangbei District and the "one area two parks¡±, Nanjing will attach great importance to building a innovation city on intelligent manufacturing, constructing the intelligent manufacturing technology innovation center, breaking key technologies in robot area, additive manufacturing area and other intelligent manufacturing areas, forming intelligent manufacturing research institutions, establishing new intelligent manufacturing platforms through jointing enterprises and institutions. On the other hand, Nanjing will actively develop intelligent manufacturing industries and products, be devoted to promoting the development of advanced intelligent equipment industry regarding robot, additive manufacturing equipment, intelligent outfit, focus on high-end and intelligent manufacturing of smart grid, integrated circuits, rail transportation and other industries, vigorously develop intelligent home appliances, virtual reality, intelligent terminal, wearable equipment, uncrewed vehicles and other intelligent products, and also promote the overall level of intelligent manufacturing industry in Nanjing into advanced level in China.
Promoting intelligent manufacturing should not rely solely on one¡¯s own hard work, but build an international level of intelligent manufacturing cooperation and exchange platform is of great importance as well. The first exchange event, that is the World Intelligent Manufacturing Summit is a large-scale, high-level and international exchange event. There is no doubt that it will greatly promote the development of "Nanjing manufacturing ".
